Benefits of Hot Yoga

Q & A
Q What are the benefits of hot yoga?

Improved metabolism, weight management, a more youthful appearance, improved digestion and circulation, enhanced focus, a calmer mind...These are just a few of the immediate benefits of any of our hot yoga modalities. With consistent practice, hot yoga restores vital balance and optimal health. The variety of hot yoga modalities we offer - Hot Yoga, Yin Yoga and Power Vinyasa - can reduce many symptoms of chronic ailments and diseases. Physical, mental and spiritual harmony - that "yoga buzz" - will be more readily felt in all areas of the practitioner's life.

Q Why is the room heated?

Hot Yoga of New Zealand uses state-of-the art technology to regulate the yoga room to a heat index of 34 - 38 degrees with an average of 50% humidity depending on the modality. This combination of passive heat-fresh air flow-humidity enhances circulation, helps prevent injury, warms the muscles, and allow for a deeper release within the body. Sweat is good! Toxins are flushed out of your body through each practice. The heat and humidity soon become your friend and in short time feel almost 'invisible'. You'll quickly grow to love yoga in a properly warmed room and the many health benefits it safely and effectively offers all doshas (body types) year round.

Q What should I expect my first class?

First time students are always welcome! Classes are open to all levels. All Hot Yoga of New Zealand studios are thriving, beautifully decorated retreats that greet practitioners with a sense of community, diversity and integrity. We encourage you to
pace yourself and have fun. The rewards of hot yoga happen just by "showing up" and staying in the heated room.

Please bring a mat, large towel and water. (Rentals available.)
Drink plenty of water before and after class.
It's important to arrive 20 minutes early to register and meet your instructor before your first class. Best of all, your first class is only $7! (Wellington & Auckland). Welcome!

Q How does my practice progress?

For best results aim to finish your first 10 classes in 4 weeks. Incrementally you will build strength, stamina, focus and flexibility. Workshops, private lessons, special guest teachers and periodic Hot Yoga Challenges are offered to keep your practice interesting and evolving. Hot Yoga of New Zealand offers not just one style of hot yoga, but several, so you can give your body the hot yoga practice it needs every day in every way.

Q How often should I practise hot yoga?

If you come 1-2 times a week, we promise you'll feel good. At 3-4 times a week, a new awareness develops and the physical, mental and spiritual changes happen more rapidly. For life-changing results, practice 5-6 times a week.

Come any day you can.

Q How does hot yoga differ from other yogas?

All yoga taught and practised with integrity is good. Practise when you can, where you can. That said, Hot Yoga of New Zealand is a unique opportunity for practitioners to experience the evolution of hot yoga - a lineage that began in Calcutta, India and has descended through the masters for centuries. Hot Yoga of New Zealand respects this lineage. We also encourage practitioners to vary postures and hot yoga modalities in a
moderately heated and properly humidified environment. Hot Yoga of New Zealand believes all bodies are not the same; compression and tension points differ from person-to-person, so modifications are given by our trained instructors to prevent injury and make progress when necessary. Appropriate music to further encourage release in body and soul is sometimes played at Hot Yoga of New Zealand. We encourage you to experience the difference for yourself!

Hot Yoga of New Zealand respects the evolution of yoga as a living art, that all yoga lineages following the ethical guidelines as set forth by international institutions such as Yoga Alliance are essential to a healthy vibrant community of practitioners.

Q So where do I begin?

If you're brand spanking new to yoga, or have been away for awhile, many practitioners enjoy starting at one of our popular Intro to Hot Yoga Sampler casual classes or the Brand New Beginners Course. That said, each and every class we offer is designed for all levels. You rest when you need to and make progress by honouring your body. Feel free to stop by or call ahead to have any your questions answered by our friendly and knowledgeable staff.

TESTIMONIALS

So thank you so much all of my hot yoga teachers, for helping me on this great new journey of change. You really don't know the impact you've had on my life so far. You are all inspirational and totally amazing. Thank you for being you.
- Unna

Having tried the traditional route of doctors, physios and painkillers to ease the pain in my lower back, I found relief after just a few classes. When I think of the effort and dollars I have wasted I can't help but wonder why on earth it took me so long to try Hot Yoga !?!
